A collective created with Nabiha and Djah. Tha Nuanties celebrates Asian and African food from the perspective of different aunties. We are the new generation aunties, wether it’s to be an actual aunt or to be the cooking aunty. We celebrate our cultures through food and love to share this with other.
Tha Nuanties present:
Gastro cinema
In The Gastro Cinema each member shared their personal story about their favourite dish from their childhood through a short film. These short films created an experience for the audience to understand our collective and personal motivation to bring people together. It was an opportunity to taste the showcased dishes after the cinematic experience and foster deeper connection.
Recipe Booklet
In our small booklet about our collective we included our short stories, manifesto and the recipes of the showcased dishes. This booklet served as an accompanied product of our Gastro Cinema to invoke conversation and invite others to understand our collective and make the served dishes at home.

The beautiful impact this experience created was sharing narratives, positive memories and a sense of community. In inviting people into a space to watch films about our favourite food and how they bring us together, fostered conversations about childhood memories and creating spaces to meet new people. After the pandemic in 2019, creating communion was something most people longed for and this experience catered to the need of connecting with others. We received positive feedback on creating similar events surrounding communion and culture.

Introducing the collective
Conclusion
Tha Nuanties is a collective that celebrates cultural identity through food and storytelling. We find it important to create communion and invite others into our space to celebrate our beautiful heritage, connect with new people and learn about other narratives. As a designer and story teller, I made the booklet to accompany the details of our Gastro Cinema through recipes and pictures.
